WATCH: All-female spacewalk performed to replace space station batteries

An all-female crew is performing the first of two spacewalks scheduled for January.

The mission for Expedition Flight Engineers Christina Koch and Jessica Meir is to replace batteries on the International Space Station, according to NASA.

They are swapping out nickel-hydrogen batteries with new lithium-ion batteries on the ISS solar array.

The batteries are the latest piece of the ISS power system upgrades that started in January 2017.
