UCF unveils ‘National Champions’ sign at Spectrum Stadium, gives players rings

ORLANDO, FLORIDA — UCF is all in when it comes to claiming that National Championship title.

Just before kickoff at Saturday’s spring game, a black tarp was dropped to unveil a ‘2017 National Champions’ sign, permanently cemented onto Spectrum Stadium.

After the game, the players had another surprise waiting for them:  diamond-encrusted national championship rings.

“That is beautiful,” says player Nate Evans after picking up his ring. “This is motivation right here. We gotta get another one of these.”

The Knights beat Auburn in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl earlier this year, 34-27, making them the only team to finish the season undefeated. But they’ve received backlash for claiming the title of National Champs. Alabama beat Georgia 26-23 in the College Football Playoff National Championship a week after UCF’s win over Auburn, taking home the true title and trophy.

"Alabama is the national champion. They played in that game called the National Championship you know," tweeted Andy King.

Zach Bitner tweets, “Lol cmon this is embarrassing.”

Last week, UCF took some heat after unveiling a campus police car wrapped in the National Champions title.   In response, UCF simply said, “Haters gonna hate.”
