Publix is named as the 12th best company to work for overall by the business-magazine Fortune.
The magazine ranked 100 U.S. companies that have at least 100,000 employees, and Publix jumped up from 47th overall last year to 12th this year.
Publix now only trails Wegmans Food Markets when it comes to best supermarket chains to work for.
Fortune says its 2019 ranks are based on several factors. Two-thirds come from a survey of a random sample of employees while the other third comes from a company's response to the "Culture Audit questionnaire," which asks about pay, benefits, hiring, communication and diversity.
"This gargantuan grocer offers aisles full of perks: tuition reimbursement, a stock purchase program open to all employees, and even on-site ESL classes at many locations," said Fortune in its review.
Publix is based in Lakeland and has 1,213 stores throughout the southeastern U.S.
