US airlines add gender-neutral option for booking flights

If you don't identify as either male or female, you soon won't be forced to select one of those two choices when booking a flight.

US airlines are working to offer a gender-neutral option.

According to Airlines for America, non-binary passengers will be able to select "unspecified" and "undisclosed" starting on June 1st, after a new international standard was approved.

The industry trade group says the change will help to remove "unnecessary, invasive, and discriminatory scrutiny by airlines, airports, and security services alike."

CNN notes that implementation will be up to the carriers, with American Airlines confirming that they are working on the update.

United recently tweeted that they too are making the change.
